Veteran Nigerian actor Doris Chima passed away at the age of 63 after fighting a long battle with breast cancer.
According to reports, Doris Chima had been suffering from breast cancer for years. Emeka Rising confirmed the initial speculations which arose about her demise to Premium Times. Making the announcement of her death, he said, “She has been suffering from breast cancer for more than six years.”
He added that “One of her breasts was cut off. And since then, she has been suffering from one complication to the other.” Mr Rising is also the Chairman of the Actors Guild of Nigeria of the Lagos State chapter.
Doris Chima was one of the founding members of the Actors Guild of Nigeria. She was also the former vice-chairperson of the AGN Lagos chapter. Rising added that he is heartbroken since he got the news from Doris Chima’s daughter. According to reports, Chima passed away in her daughter’s house.
Emeka Rising also said, “She called me last week and was pleading with me that she cannot come out for the AGN verification exercise due to her ill-health. I wonder how she was able to do that even while on a sickbed. I was very touched and I have been heartbroken.”
Chima had started her career in films in 1994. She had since then worked in more than 50 films in the Nigerian film industry. Some of her well-known work includes ‘Taboo II’, ‘Sweet Mother’, ‘Divided Love’. She is also seen in the recent film My Neighbor’s Hot Wife. Chima had worked with well-known Nigerian actors like Nkem Owoh a.k.a Osuofia (Lion Finger), John Okafor a.k.a Mr. Ibu (Cold Brothers), Genevieve Nnaji (Passion).
Close to the end of last month, Nigeria had lost another veteran actor Rachel Oniga. Her family disclosed that she passed away due to heart-related ailments.
