Total blackout as electricity workers goes on strike

It has been reported that Electricity workers in Nigeria has shut down the major power stations on Wednesday, August 17, due to the ongoing nationwide strike. The national union of electricity employees on Tuesday, August 16, has directed its workers to go on strike over payment of entitlement by the transmission company of Nigeria (TCN), The Cable reported.

However, the TCN has appealed and begged workers to suspend the proposed strike, adding that they should give the government two weeks to sort out the issues and come up with an acceptable solution.

Some of the electric workers were seen in a viral video shutting down the power station in Abuja while chanting solidarity songs.

Lagos, Ikeja Electric union also send a message to all its customers where they announced an ongoing disruption of power supply as a result of the strike, in their words they said

“Dear Esteemed Customer, Due to the ongoing nationwide picketing of Transmission Stations by the National Union of Electricity Employees (NUEE), we are currently experiencing disruption of power supply,”
