Hot from the street; Tingo Mobile-Soundcity Music Awards Festival Burna Boy, Rema, Asake top nominee list

Hot from the street & new developments reaching us just after the recently concluded Afrima awards shows that Popular Afrobeat singer, Damini Ogulu, aka Burna Boy, is at the top of the nomination list for this year’s edition of the ‘Tingo Mobile-Soundcity Music Awards Festival.

Featuring a total of eight nominations in seven categories, including ‘African Artiste of the Year’, ‘Listener’s Choice’, ‘Viewer’s Choice’, ‘Digital Artiste of the Year’, ‘Best Male MVP’, and ‘Song of the Year as well.

Also, the self-acclaimed African Giant got two nominations in the ‘Best Collaboration Category’— Black Sheriff featuring Burna Boy (Second Sermon), and Asake featuring Burna Boy (Sungba remix) respectively. Seemingly Hot from the street.

Coming in at second place is singer Divine Ikubor, aka Rema, who tied with Ahmed Ololade, popularly known as Asake, with seven nominations.

Other nominees include Raphael Attachie, aka Camidoh; Stanley Didia, aka Omah Lay; Daniel Anidugbe, aka Kizz Daniel; Ghanaian singer, Mohammed Frimpong aka Black Sherif; with five nominations each.

Also on the list is South African rapper, Costa Tsobanoglou, aka Costa Titch; Dennis Dwamena, aka Kidi; and Oyinkansola Aderibigbe, aka Ayra Starr; who were nominated in four different categories. Hot from the street Tingo Mobile-Soundcity Music Awards

Do note that the Soundcity MVP Awards, which transitioned from the Soundcity Video Music Awards in 2016, recognize outstanding achievements of African artists in 15 various music categories which include, ‘Including the best Male MVP. 

Award for Best Female MVP’, ‘Song of the Year’, ‘Music Video of the Year’, ‘African Artiste of the Year’, ‘African DJ of the Year’, and ‘Best Hip Hop’. This is in addition to the non-music/special recognition awards in philanthropy, sports, community and social development, social entrepreneurship, contribution to the growth of music, and so on. Explaining what motivated the company to keep organizing the awards, the Chief Executive Officer of Group8 Limited and founder of the awards festival, Tajudeen Adepetu, said, “Indeed, it is that time of the year for those who dig into the depth of their artistry to entertain our music-loving continental audience to be celebrated.”
